Slingshot Takes On Snapchat
Facebook is taking on social networking giant, Snapchat by creating their own version of the app – Slingshot.
“Slingshot lets you quickly share moments—little and big—with lots of people at once. It’s a new kind of feed where everyone is a creator.”
After singing up to the app with your phone number, find people by the usual channels, contacts and Facebook.
Only one of my friends has currently signed up to this app so it was a pretty lonely experience. I had to Slingshot the app team account (sob), but it turned out to be quite helpful in explaining how the app works.
I’m unsure if this app will take off. You have to unlock photos (if your friend ‘slings’ you, you have to unlock it by ‘slinging’ a photo back), which I can imagine being annoying if you’re busy at work etc. Snapchat is a winner because there is very little to it.
Like Snapchat, once it’s been viewed it’s gone forever, which is the appealing part of this kind of app, I mean that’s all the fun really.
The app developers believe that because you have to send something back to unlock a Slingshot, there’s less pressure, everyone’s involved and we’ll have “awesome” shared experiences…
I’m unconvinced by the app at the moment. I don’t feel like we need another Snapchat, they’ve got it covered.
Perhaps if more of us give it a go it could be fun, but I’m sticking with Snapchat for now.
Have you used Slingshot? What do you think?
