Your How-To Guide On Period Sex [Let’s Discuss]
I often hear ‘no, I was on my period’ or ‘nope, she was on her period’ when asking a friend, about whether or not they’ve had sex.
This is usually the common response whether it be in early days in the relationship or just when sexual encounters are of a more casual nature. I mean I get it, the blood can be messy, you may feel a little awkward and despite feeling hornier while on your period (something I only recently discovered), when you’ve got a heavy flow, sex is less than appealing.
However, there will probably come a time in your life when you are super horny and decide to have sex despite the horrific bloodied ending. I’ve actually heard many stories where resisting sex becomes too much to handle and has resulted in tampons flying out of car windows, across bars, and even once removing the front teeth of the participating male. But remember, just because you’re giving into the intense pleasure of period sex, doesn’t mean you need to throw all caution to the wind and let those sanitary products fly free. Here are a couple of ways to make period sex a little less messy and hopefully prevent the ‘eww, there’s blood everywhere’ responses.
Have a designated ‘period towel’
Yes, may seem a bit OCD and does sound like it should belong to a middle aged housewife screaming, “hang on a second darling, let me fetch the towel”, but I promise it will save time on washing the sheets.
This isn’t for everyone and often more awkward to achieve than porn and films would lead us to believe (see 500 Days of Summer for a more realistic representation), but at least it saves on mess. If not, just have sex, shower together and hopefully there won’t be as much blood that you look like you’re washing away the evidence of a crime scene together.
Wear A Condom
For some of you, condoms may be part of your standard sex check list, but for those of you using other forms of contraception in your STI checked sexual relationship, condoms may be a distant memory. However, if your guy is a little squeamish about your red sea, condoms are a way to keep things slightly cleaner. If he moans ‘the sex isn’t as good’ but also moans about the blood, chances are you should probably give up trying to convince this one.
Think about Positions
The choice of sex position can minimise the amount of blood escaping. For example, missionary is less likely to result in a bloody mess than say cowgirl because well, gravity. It can actually work in your favour depending on position preference and a bit of experimentation never goes amiss.
Alleviating Period Pains
Not so much a tip about how to have less messy period sex and more so a reason as to why you shouldn’t avoid it. According to science sex can help aid period pains, so what better reason than to get down on it, and by it I mean the D. Though we’re yet to determine whether the sex simply takes your mind of your cramps or if it actually gets rid of the pain altogether, but hey you’re getting laid so who’s complaining?
Just as I was about to offer the ‘there are plenty of other sexual things you guys can get up to’ option as an alternative to period sex, I would just like to say girls, you are under no obligation to give a guy a blowjob, just because you don’t want to have sex on your period.
