Keeping The Magic Of Christmas Alive As An Adult
It’s easy to slip away from the magic of Christmas as we grow up – but why should we just accept this as a fact and begrudgingly wish the season away? Here’s several super easy ways to keep the magic of Christmas alive as we embrace adulthood.
What’s one thing you definitely didn’t add to your Christmas wish list as a child? Alcohol. What’s one thing you should definitely include on your Christmas list as a child? Alcohol. Jamie Oliver’s Christmas Punch is a great place to start, and then maybe Martha Stewart’s Cranberry Cocktails for afters. If you’re not a fan of cocktails, it’s the season for mulled wine and cosy nights in, so embrace sitting and sipping by the fire on a winter evening.
Christmas should be about being with and appreciating your loved ones. However, making them feel appreciated isn’t about how much money you can spend, but rather getting something perfect. So be prepared, and start looking for things mid-November instead of getting something in a rush the week before. As Christmas Day approaches, you’ll find yourself overly excited to give your presents, and the magic of the season will be there once again.
That’s a Wrap
Now you’ve got your perfect presents, don’t make wrapping a chore. Set aside an evening and settle down to wrap. Put on a Christmas film – the cheesier the better – grab a glass of wine and get organised. Christmas is definitely the time to go OTT with your wrapping, so grab the glitter and the ribbons and go for it.
A New Wardrobe
Okay, bear with me here. You may not think of Christmas jumpers as particularly appealing, but your Christmas wardrobe isn’t exclusive to just the woolies! Grab some Christmas PJs, a onesie or even some socks and be reminded of your Christmas spirit each time you look in the mirror. It’s sure to brighten up the office, or maybe just cause people to stare at you as you walk past…
You may have been ice skating at Christmas as a child, but chances are you didn’t fully embrace it. Now you’re an adult, grab some friends and get your skates on and visit one of the many outdoor ice rinks that pop up the moment it starts to get colder outside. If you’re feeling like splashing out on some Christmas magic, then head to London for fancy skating at Somerset House. Not willing to spend that much? Stick some tinsel on a hairband and head to your local ice rink and pretend instead.
Just like the ice rinks, November will see a burst of Christmas markets popping up over the country. If you’ve got the time and the money, head to the real thing in Germany or Prague to really get a feel for it, but for most of us the UK equivalents will have to do. Best of the best are German-style markets in Birmingham, Manchester or Edinburgh, where stalls take over the city each year. Feel extra festive with mulled wine or some hot chocolate, and explore the stalls.
It’s Who You’re With That Counts
At the end of the day, the true magic of Christmas is spending quality time with the people that you love. So take some time to remind yourself of all the amazing people in your life and the magic will truly be there once again.
