#Aftersex Selfie: Would You?
We all know that right after doing the dirty deed, most of us reach for our phones to see what we’ve missed during that
sweaty 5 minutes romantic hour. Probably not the most idyllic image but we all know we do it. What I don’t understand is why people now feel the urge to take a photographic memory. Sweaty, red faced and hair sticking up at all angles, this isn’t my idea of a great time for a picture. However, #aftersex selfie is currently trending all over Instagram.
Cameras in the bedroom always sounds seedy to me as images of infamous sex tapes start to flash in my head. To me, this craze seems like an extension of the couples PDA on Facebook. Long statuses expressing their love for their other half, pictures depicting every day out and of course the reams of conversatiobly could have had over text. Call me cynical, but these types of couples are generally the ones who have the most to prove. Instead of spending this time together, they find themselves having to reaffirm to others the ‘strength’ of their relationship by making sure each person knows how much they love each other. As much as I love to Facebook stalk and smugly flick through these posts, it always makes me wonder why relationships need to be shared with the entire world. Surely a moment as private as laying in bed after sex is something you want to share between you and your partner, not your 1000 ‘friends’.
Perhaps I’ve got it wrong though. In my apparently dated views, I imagined dirty images posted by childish ‘lads’ to show off to their mates. Through research though, I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. Intimate and tasteful pictures of couples cuddled in bed together (and of course the occasional dodgy one posted for lad points). Maybe for some couples it wasn’t about the sex, it was about being close to one another and, dare I say it, a way to capture a rare romantic moment.
Of course, I’m all for personal choice. If you want to post these images for the whole world to see, go for it. Just make sure it is your personal choice. Pictures on the internet can never be taken back and I’m sure a future employer might think twice about hiring someone they have already had the pleasure of seeing in bed after sex. Just one to think about.
As for me, even if I had a makeup team on stand by, I think I’d still give that Kodak moment a rest for my own dignity! I’d love to hear your views on it, please leave in the comments below.
